Discover Euganean Hills

Discovering the Euganean Hills

The Euganean Hills with their natural, historical and artistic beauties are an ideal starting point for a trip to Veneto.

Arquà Petrarca

In this city, time seems to stand still in the Middle Ages. Indeed Arquà you can admire buildings that have been there for a thousand years. Even the house where the homonymous author spent the last years of his life has been preserved as it was, with personal objects and memorabilia that tell the story of the poet from Arezzo.

The Benedictine abbey of Praglia One of the most important religious settlements in the Euganean hills. It is a monastery made up of various rooms, including the four cloisters (botanical, hanging, double and rustic). The oldest nucleus consists of the Romanesque bell tower. The Latin cross church was designed by Tullio Lombardo.

Torreglia

Chosen by the Camaldolese monks to build the Hermitage of Monte Rua, Torreglia is, in fact, the place that reconciles the spirit with its tranquility. This sensation can be experienced by admiring the landscape that opens up from the Belvedere della Croce. And surrounded by greenery, you can still admire the Fonte Regina from the Roman era, which served as an aqueduct for Padua and Abano. In the quiet hamlet of Luvigliano you can also see the splendid Villa dei Vescovi.

The sanctuary of Monte della Madonna

Founded in the 1300s, this temple dedicated to the Marian cult is located on the top of the hill to which it gives its name. Restored in recent times, the sanctuary is now entrusted to the Benedictine monks who are headed by the abbey of Praglia.

Museum of air and space at the castle of S. Pelagio

The Castle of San Pelagio has medieval origins which can be seen in the splendid watchtower that belonged to the Carrara family. D’Annunzio stayed here for about a year during the preparations for the famous flight over Vienna, which took place on 9 August 1918, starting right from the Castle. Thanks to this historic event, the castle is redesigned as a flight museum that traces the entire history of human flight.

The bicycle is certainly the ideal tool for discovering this fascinating area, perhaps assisted by an electric bicycle for less trained people.
