The first destination of the day will be Marostica: with its defensive towers and crenellated walls, it’s one of the most beautiful fortified towns in the region. While you’re there, you’ll visit the square, famous for its centuries-old chess game: a re enactment with living chess pieces that takes place every two years.
You’ll then continue towards Bassano del Grappa, admiring the rolling hills off to your left. Only 7 km (4.3 miles) separate you from the beautiful town on the Brenta River, which is named after the massif above it. We’ll stop to take pictures at the symbol of the city: the Ponte degli Alpini bridge, originally designed by Andrea Palladio. Once we’ve explored the cobbled streets of the old town—discovering its history, art and food and wine—we’ll continue on our way.
Gentle uphill and downhill slopes lead through green fields, pastures and vineyards to the beautiful town of Asolo, known for its ‘Cento Orizzonti’ (One Hundred Horizons). You’ll park your bike to walk through the old town, dominated by the great Rocca (fortress).
Back on your bicycle, you’ll head downhill to the Su Sentieri degli Ezzelini (On the Ezzelini Trails) bicycle path, which runs along stretches of land characterized in medieval times by the presence of the powerful Ezzelini family.
Following the stream, passing by traditional dwellings, oratories and historical villas, you’ll reach Castelfranco. Situated at two-thirds of our route, we’ll stop to enjoy this walled city, the hometown of the famed painter Giorgione, who was born here in 1478.
The banks of the Muson River will accompany you on your journey south to the town of Camposampiero and then continue before ending the day in Noale.
